A group, Plateau Larger House, has advised youths in the state to shun the ongoing nationwide protests against the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Michael Makwal, the Chairman of the group, gave the advice in Jos, the state capital, during a meeting with youths from across the 17 Local Government Areas.
DAILYPOST recalls that some hoodlums hijacked the nationwide protests in the state, turning them violent and exploiting the confusion to loot public and private assets in the Jos metropolis.
The situation led the state government to impose a 24-hour curfew on the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.
Makwal stated that youths should instead support the government’s efforts to provide dividends of democracy to the citizenry.
“The forum comprises past leaders of the Plateau Youth Council (PYC); it has existed for over 30 years.
“Though an informal forum, it is our responsibility to mentor and nurture the younger generation to protect the sanctity and integrity of Plateau.
“We don’t want any protest that will disrupt the peaceful coexistence of our dear state, which is why we are calling on Plateau youths to shun the nationwide protests.
“Most peaceful protests often degenerate into a breakdown of law and order and, in some cases, destruction of lives and property.
“We have all witnessed how some miscreants hijacked the protests and looted shops in Jos North LGA,” he said.
Makwal called on Plateau citizens, irrespective of religious, political, and ethnic affiliations, to support the current administration to succeed.
“This government is doing its best to deliver on the dividends of democracy to the citizens, and our duty as citizens is to support the government to succeed.
“The time for politicking is over; this is the time for governance. We need to put our differences aside and give this government the maximum support and cooperation.
“We have no other state to run to, so we have a responsibility to protect Plateau’s integrity and sanctity,” he advised.
Regarding the forthcoming PYC elections, the chairman advised the youths to adhere to zoning arrangements and elect individuals with proven integrity to the various offices.
