British heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua has expressed reservations about his son, Joseph Joshua, following in his footsteps and becoming a professional boxer.
During an interview on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, The two-time former unified world heavyweight champion, expressed his belief that it would not be wise for his son, Joseph Joshua (JJ), to pursue a career in the demanding world of boxing.
Instead, Anthony Joshua expressed a preference for his son to pursue a career as an accountant. He went on to stress the importance of JJ carving out his own future and becoming the “best man that he can be.”
“If I was to choose (a career) for him, I would ask him to probably look at accountancy because I think it's good to understand numbers,” he said.
Joshua's stance on his son's future echoes his previous statements he has made, where he has openly stated that he does not envision a life in boxing for JJ.
Despite his own success in the sport, which has seen him rise to prominence and capture world titles, Joshua has maintained a cautious approach towards JJ's potential career choices.
Reflecting on his own career during the interview, Anthony Joshua recounted how boxing had been instrumental in channeling his energy positively.
Having faced challenges such as trouble with the police and homelessness at a young age, Joshua described boxing as a pivotal turning point in his life when he entered the ring at 18 years old.
