Seyi Law frowns at government for imposing 0.5% cybersecurity levy on all transactions

Renowned comedian Seyi Law has expressed his discontent with the government‘s decision to impose a 0.5% cybersecurity levy on all transactions.

The comedian utilized the X platform to criticize government agencies for their silence on educating citizens and addressing misleading narratives before implementing policies.

He argued that imposing a 0.5% charge is excessively burdensome on , especially amidst prevailing economic challenges.

Seyi Law raised concerns about whether the government aims to discourage banking transactions, effectively encouraging citizens to rely on cash instead.

His words: “I hate when government agencies don't speak up to the understanding of the citizens and allow wrong narratives to fester before tackling it. Cybersecurity level, according to the act, is 0.005%, and different figures from 0.5% to 3% are being thrown around.

“A 0.5% charge in the of today is in itself too much punishment on Nigerians. Are we trying to discourage banking transactions again and encourage cash keeping? @cenbank should revisit this abeg.
