The Taraba Independent Peace Committee has expressed sadness and outrage over continuous attacks and killings in some parts of the state.
Making the condemnation on Tuesday while reacting to the gruesome killings of six passengers in Takum LGA by unknown gunmen, the group called on the Taraba and Benue governments to urgently collaborate and take decisive action to address the rampant insecurity in the areas.
Chairman of the group, Professor Talla Ngarka, in a statement condemned the act, demanding an increased security presence and enhanced intelligence gathering along the Takum/Wukari roads to prevent further attacks.
The group also stressed the importance of apprehending and bringing the perpetrators of the crimes to justice as a deterrent to future violence.
“The safety of our citizens should be the highest priority, It is imperative that both state governments work together to restore peace and order,” Ngarka said.
The persons reported to have been killed in the ambush that took place in the early hours of Tuesday are Tanko Danjuma, Kabiru Gambo Limam, Muktar Usman.
Others are Gambo Andemi, Abba Bulus, and Samuel Pius.
The attack followed the recent murder of the Gara of Chanchanji, a respected traditional ruler, on the same road.
“The consistent and coordinated nature of these violent acts has left local communities in a state of fear and despair,” the group stated.
Also condemning the killings, the state governor, Agbu Kefas, had urged the security operatives to work round the clock to fish out the perpetrators.
