After three weeks of excitement, drama, joy, and disappointment for some athletes, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games came to a climax on Sunday.
In a display of Hollywood showmanship, Tom Cruise descended from the top of the French stadium to the “Mission Impossible” theme song before taking the Olympic flag from star gymnast Simone Biles, putting it on the back of a motorcycle, and driving out of the stadium.
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre then performed on Venice Beach as part of a star-studded music set to conclude the ceremony.
The ceremony also offered a glimpse of what could be in store in 2028 when Los Angeles plays host.

The showpiece, which brought together a total of 216 countries and 10,714 athletes, saw the United States of America dominating the medal table.
United States with a total of 126, while China follows with 91. Both countries, however, had a tie for 40 gold medals.
In medals, the US team again topped the medal table, with 126 in all, 40 of them gold. China also won 40 golds, but managed only 27 silvers. Still, it was the country’s best performance in an overseas Olympics since it began competing in 1984.
Japan also turned in a strong performance after meeting their lofty goal of 20 gold medals and coming in third on the medal table.
On the other hand, Team Nigeria failed to win a medal despite huge expectations from the over 68 athletes that represented the country in Paris.
