Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Blessing Oborududu advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 68kg freestyle wrestling event on Monday, coming from behind to defeat France’s world No. 3 Koumba Larroque 6-2.
Relying on her wits and experience, the Nigerian wrestler overcame the challenge posed by Larroque and the supportive home crowd. Oborududu trailed 2-1 in the second period but secured a crucial takedown with 1:10 left. As Larroque pressed for the winning score, Oborududu clinched the victory with another takedown.
In the quarter-finals, Oborududu faced former Canadian world champion Linda Morais, defeating her 8-2. Despite trailing 2-0 in the first period after a takedown by Morais, Oborududu staged a strong comeback in the second period, executing three takedowns for the win.
Koumba Larroque reached the quarter-finals by defeating New Zealand’s Tayla Ford 6-0.
