President Bola Tinubu has celebrated Rena Wakama for winning the best coach award in the women’s basketball event at the 2024 Olympic Games.
As the head coach of D’Tigress, Wakama led the Nigerian team to a historic quarter-final appearance before they were defeated by the US. This marked a significant achievement, as D’Tigress became the first African team to reach the quarter-finals in the history of the Olympics.
In a statement issued on Monday by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Tinubu praised Wakama, 32, for her leadership and dedication to excellence, as recognized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
The President also commended the entire team and everyone who contributed to their unprecedented success, urging them to remain resilient and determined in their pursuit of greatness.
