1. Nigeria’s security agencies are investigating at least four politicians from the country’s northern part over the use of Russian flags by #EndBadGovernance protesters. It was gathered that the politicians who instigated the use of foreign flags during protests are from Kano, Kaduna and Katsina States.
2. Some residents of Katsina State came out en masse to observe a special prayer session to seek Allah’s intervention against the lingering economic hardship and insecurity in the state. The prayer session, which was held on Tuesday at the premises of Katsina Arabic Teachers College playground, was widely attended by all genders amid tight security.
3. Zamfara State Government on Tuesday denied budgeting N19 billion for Governor Dauda Lawal’s kitchenware as circulated on social media. The State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Abdulmalik Gajam, at a media briefing on Tuesday in Gusau, described the information as mischievous.
4. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and other domestic refineries have yet to start the purchase of crude oil in naira as directed by President Bola Tinubu. It was learnt that the $20bn plant and other local refineries in Nigeria had yet to start buying crude oil from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited in naira as instructed by Tinubu last week.
5. The guidelines for the suspension of customs duty and taxes on imported food items are to commence next week, the Federal Government announced on Tuesday. In July, the Federal Government approved a 150-day duty-free window to allow the importation of maize, husked brown rice, and wheat as part of measures to combat rising food inflation across the country.
6. The Kwara State Government has placed the Healthcare on Outbreak Response Mode after confirmation of the death of a 70-year-old grandmother, her son and two other family members in the Eruda community, Ilorin in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state after eating an Amala meal said to have been poisoned.
7. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has approved a pivotal financial accommodation to support the proposed merger between Unity Bank and Providus Bank. CBN’s acting Director of Corporate Communications, Hakama Sidi Ali, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
8. The embattled Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, Sir John Ngbede, has announced the suspension of former Governor Samuel Ortom and three others from the party over alleged anti-party activities. The announcement came a few hours after nine out of the 13 State Working Committee (SWC) members declared Ngbede’s suspension.
9. Authorities of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) have placed sponsors of nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest on its watchlist. Comptroller-General of NIS, Kemi Nandap, who disclosed this at Defence Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, said these persons who are in the diaspora would be arrested immediately if they step on Nigerian soil.
10. The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has fixed local government area elections for November 16. The commission’s Chairman, Babatunde Osibodu, on Tuesday, announced guidelines for the conduct of the elections.
