After over six weeks of Finidi George’s resignation as Super eagles head coach, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is still engulfed in crisis and confusion over the choice of a new coach for the senior national team.

Reliable sources disclosed that the top officials of the NFF have been having sleepless nights over the final choice of a substantive coach for Eagles.

The NFF, according to reports, has settled for Eric Chelle but some other powerful people led by a former topshot in the federation are opposed to this.

It was learnt that the opposing group is rooting for a former Gambia coach, Tom Saintfiet, to replace Finidi even though he has a win ratio of 28 per cent with his former employers.

“Chelle has a win ratio of 79 per cent with the Mali national team. He has knowledge of African football and can take Eagles to the next level. We can also look at other top coaches around the world but certainly not Saintfiet,” a top NFF stated.

In 22 games as the Coach of Mali, Chelle won 14, drew  5 and lost 3. The team scored 36 goals and conceded only 12. The Gambian does not know how to score goals under Saintfiet. They were in very low percentage till his exit and he could compound the problem of Eagles. The Super Eagles scoring ratio in the last one year is 21 per cent while Mali is 79 per cent.

Nigeria takes on Benin between September 2 and 6 at home and will face Rwanda between September 6 and 9 in an away encounter of the AFCON qualifiers.
