Manchester City defeated Manchester United on penalty shootout to win the 2024 Community Shield at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
City have won the Community Shield for the first time since 2019, ending a run of three straight defeats (2021, 2022, 2023)
United remain the only side to lose the CommunityShield in four consecutive years.
Also, the Red Devils have now been runners-up 10 times in the Community Shield, more often than any other side in the competition’s history.
City won 7-6 on penalty shootout after 90 minutes ended 1-1 and avenge their FA Cup defeat last season.
Alejandro Garnacho gave United the lead with eight minutes left but Bernardo Silva equalised in the 89th minute to force the game into penalties.
Silva saw his effort saved by Andre Onana while Jadon Sancho and Johnny Evans missed for United.
Manuel Akanji then stepped up to convert his kick and hand Pep Guardiola’s men the shield.
