In an exciting move towards enhancing its entertainment offerings, Go Africa Dot Radio has announced plans to discontinue its Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) service in favor of launching a dynamic new TV channel.
Speaking on behalf of the station, Denzel Kabelo Mphisa, the official spokesperson, emphasized that the decision to phase out the DAB service stemmed from a strategic reallocation of resources. Mphisa highlighted the evolving listening habits of the audience, noting that the majority now prefer to stream content online or through smart devices such as Alexa and Google speakers. As such, the station aims to repurpose the resources previously allocated to DAB operations to establish a groundbreaking TV channel.
The proposed TV channel promises to be a visual feast, showcasing the vibrant tapestry of African culture through captivating sights and sounds. While it will feature a diverse array of entertainment content, including music, the primary focus will be on highlighting the work of “non-mainstream” artists. Currently undergoing rigorous testing in its initial phase, the TV channel is poised to officially launch later this year. Upon completion of testing, viewers can expect seamless streaming accessibility via popular platforms such as Apple TV, Amazon, Roku, and potentially Multi-Choice, pending approval.
Ikenna Okere, the station's Chief Executive, underscored the rationale behind venturing into television broadcasting. He expressed the desire to offer dedicated listeners an alternative medium of entertainment while providing them with an opportunity to connect visually with the music they love. Despite the inclusion of news and weather reports, Okere emphasized that the TV channel remains steadfast in its commitment to prioritizing musical content and showcasing the rich tapestry of African talent.
