Gospel artiste, Efosa Esther Edougha has said God’s wisdom guides gospel artistes in their dealings.

The singer, songwriter and member of SLIC, the band of renowned gospel artiste, Sinach spoke in response to often-asked question – should gospel music like secular music be seen as an exchange of talent or service for a price?

Esta noted that while one can’t pay for their God-given talents, a lot goes behind the scenes when producing a good song or musical piece, whether gospel or secular.

“Some people do music or play music for a living, so they need to be paid for their skill and time. But that’s not to say that I’ll put a ridiculous price on my singing because we can’t pay for the gift God gave us if we were to. I’ll say the wisdom of God guides us in our dealings and help us to avoid causing scandal to Christendom.”

Displaying a talent of singing at an early age, she has been singing in choirs since 1998, before officially joining Sinach’s band in 2008. Being in the band helped her understand and navigate the gospel music industry better to pursue a solo gospel career.

Her first song ‘I Believe In Nigeria’ was released in 2007, same year she signed up as a solo artiste with Hex Records. This was followed by a handful of EPs like ‘You Lord’, ‘Good God’, and ‘I Am Strong In The Lord’, released during her 2019 concert and album launch, which were all well received.

Besides additional EPs All Sufficient God and All Of My Worship, Esta’s appearance in the highly successful 2023 programme In This Room with Sinach solidified her reputation as a powerhouse in gospel music, garnering her widespread acclaim and adoration.

Her songs which resonate with both the young and old reverberates themes of hope, love, gratitude and God’s goodness.

“I haven’t always wanted to go solo. I’ve been in the choir since 1998. So, I’ve always written songs for the choir. I have been a choir coordinator twice, and I love being in a choir, even though I still have a solo career. So, it’s the same.”

The singer is set to release new songs from an upcoming concert project this year, and record a new project for 2025.
