Nigeria’s Ashley Anumba missed out from a place in the final of the women’s Discus event, at the Paris Olympic games on Friday.
Anumba made her first appearance at the Olympics and competed in the women’s Discus qualification Group A.
The African champion threw a mark of 58.83 to finish 14th in her group, which was not enough to seal qualification into the final.
The quartet of Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Emmanuel Ojeli and Patience Okon-George failed to qualify for the final of the mixed 4×400 metres relay.
The team finished fourth after running a new Nigerian record of 3:11.99
Great Britain won the race in a time of 3:10.61, Netherlands finished second in a time of 3:10.81 and Italy third in 3:11.59.
Earlier on Friday, national record holder, Temitope Adeshina, missed out on making the women’s high jump final after finishing 19th in the overall standings with a height of 1.88m.
Adeshina opened her competition at 1.83m, which she sailed through easily. On her next height at 1.88m, she failed on her first attempt but got the job done on her second attempt.
At 1.92m, she missed all her attempts putting her Olympic debut to an end.
Adeshina is the second Nigerian ever to compete in the high jump at the Olympics after Doreen Amata who competed at the 2008 and 2016 Olympics.
