Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress’ Head Coach Rena Wakama, has won the Best Coach Award of the Paris 2024 Olympic Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Wakama was on Sunday, August 11, named among the winners in various categories following the conclusion of the Paris 2024 basketball tournament for both men’s and women’s categories.

The energetic D’Tigress coach led the team to outstanding victories against Australia and Canada in Group B stage matches during the recently concluded basketball tournament at the international multi-sports event.
Wakama’s exceptional leadership inspired courage in the team, helping them qualify from the group stage and become the first African basketball team (men or women) to reach the quarterfinal stage. They were defeated by the eventual winner, the USA.
Wakama’s coaching pedigree earned her this award, which serves as a testament to her passion and unwavering commitment to her job.
