Germany clinched the bronze medal in the women’s football event of the Paris Olympic thanks to a 1-0 win over Spain on Friday.
Giulia Gwinn was the hero for the Germans after converting a 64th minute penalty which was enough to secure the bronze medal.
Gwinn won the penalty for her side after she was fouled by Spanish keeper Cata Coll.
Spain had a chance to draw level and send the game into extra time after they were also awarded a penalty of their own in added time.
But Alexia Putellas missed the penalty as her effort was saved by Germany goalkeeper Ann-Katrin.
Meanwhile, the final of the women’s football event comes up on Saturday between the United States and Brazil.
This will be the third time both teams will meet in the final of the Olympics football event with the Americans winning the previous clashes at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.
