The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has responded swiftly to a viral video showing a Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) official soliciting a bribe from a passenger at one of the country’s airports.
In an official statement released by FAAN’s Managing Director and Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the behaviour displayed by the officer was described as “completely unacceptable” and contrary to the standards expected at the nation’s airports.
“The officer in question has been immediately withdrawn from duty at the terminal and is currently facing disciplinary action with the NIS,” Mrs. Kuku stated, emphasising that such conduct does not reflect the level of professionalism and integrity that FAAN aims to uphold.
The incident, which has sparked outrage on social media, has prompted FAAN to reinforce its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and passenger safety at all its terminals.
Mrs. Kuku urged passengers to report any similar incidents they may encounter, providing dedicated phone numbers and QR codes for swift action. She assured the public that FAAN is determined to ensure a pleasant and secure travel experience for everyone.
“Your safety and comfort are our top priorities,” she added, thanking passengers for their continued cooperation and vigilance.
FAAN has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct by any personnel operating within its facilities, as the agency continues to strive for excellence in service delivery.
