In an extraordinary act of honesty, a 36-year-old commercial driver, Safiyanu Mohammed has returned a lost bag containing a substantial sum of money to the police in Kano State.

Spokesman of the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdallahi Haruna Kiyawa disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

According to the statement, the driver, a resident of Rangaza Quarters in Ungogo local government area, discovered the bag on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Hadejia Road by Dakata Junction.

Instead of keeping the money, Mohammed, an indigene of Katsina State, chose to hand over the bag to the Police Command, hoping it would be returned to its rightful owner.

The bag, while holding a large sum of cash, had no identification or contact information, making it difficult to trace the owner.

The Kano State Police Command has issued a public appeal for the owner to come forward, urging anyone with information to assist in reuniting the bag with its rightful owner.

Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Salman Dogo Garba, commended Mohammed for his remarkable integrity. “In a world where honesty can often be in short supply, Mr. Mohammed’s actions are a shining example of doing the right thing,” CP Garba said. “We encourage anyone who might know the owner of the bag to help ensure its return.”

The statement then asked the owner to provide proof of ownership and proper identification to claim the bag.

“Those who believe the bag belongs to them or have information that could help are advised to contact the Kano State Police Command at 07033093437 or visit the Police Public Relations Office at Bompai Police Headquarters,” the statement said.
