Former Manchester United and defender Gerard Pique has expressed doubts over 's capacity to rejuvenate the struggling Manchester United side.

Pique believes that the 's fortunes could improve if they place greater in their academy talents rather than relying on expensive signings.

Despite a promising start under Ten Hag, Manchester United's form has deteriorated this season, with the team currently languishing in sixth place in the Premier League. Their disappointing Champions League campaign culminated in an early group-stage exit.

While United's recent victory over brought temporary relief, Pique remains unconvinced that it signals a significant turning point for Ten Hag's tenure.

Pique, who experienced success at both United and Barcelona, emphasized the importance of continuity and direction for sustained success.

He suggested that United lost their focus after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson and have struggled to find their way back to the top ever since.

Regarding Ten Hag, Pique acknowledged the Dutch coach's capabilities but questioned whether he could orchestrate a successful turnaround at Old Trafford.

“I still believe Ten Hag is a very good coach,” Pique told Sky Sports.

“I don't really know if he will be able to turn things around but the win against Liverpool [in the FA Cup] was incredible.”
